John J. Ropietski, 87, of Pittston, passed away peacefully Saturday night, November 14, 2020, at United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village Campus in Pittston PA.

Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Joseph and Teresa Ropietski.

John was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. He was employed by CertainTeed in Mountaintop, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception in Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine Wnek, Sophie Hart, Frances Ropietski, Helen Vnuk, and Stella Kris and his brother Joseph Ropietski.

Surviving are his wife, Antoinette Ropietski (Latwiss). Toni and John just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on November 12th. Also surviving are his children, Cynthia McClafferty and her husband, Patrick of Wernersville, PA; and Jay Ropietski and his wife, Joan, of Schenectady, NY; grandchildren, Lauren Bowman and her husband, Tom; John Ropietski III; Ryan McClafferty; and Nathan McClafferty; great-grandchildren, Cayden and Cora Bowman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception, 134 South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701, with Father J. Duane Gavitt, pastor, officiating. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the United States Army and the Plains American Legion Funeral Honors Detail will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming, PA. Masks and face coverings are required at all times at church and the cemetery. Please practice social distancing at all times.

In accordance with John’s wishes, the family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial donations, if desired, be made to St Jude’s Children Hospital, stjude.org in John’s memory.
