John J. Baran Jr, 82, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Monday evening, March 13, 2017 at in inpatient unit of Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Patrician) Baran, Sr.

John was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School and attended Wilkes-Barre Business College and also attended Luzerne County Community College for three years studying Culinary Arts. He was an Army Veteran serving from 1958 to 1960.

John was self-employed as a Master Plumber and was employed as the Wilkes-Barre City Plumbing Inspector, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre and was a Charter Member of the Parsons Lions Club, a member of the North End Slovak Club, Wilkes-Barre and served as a Eucharistic Minister for 32 Years for the former St. John’s and Sacred Heart Slovak Churches of North Wilkes-Barre and on Sunday distributed Holy Communion at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his First Wife Bernice (Wilk) Baran, Daughter Ann Marie Baran and Grandson Julian Walsh Davies.

Surviving are his Wife of 32 years Alice Delaney Walsh Baran, Parsons, Son, Dr. James Baran and his wife Carole, Pittsburgh, Mary Baran, Throop, Daria Walsh and her husband Paul Tubb, Howth, Dublin, Ireland, Christine Walsh Davies and husband Matt, Hummelstown, PA, Nora Walsh Reinhard, and husband Jason, Whitehall, PA, Grandchildren, Tracey, Laura, Celia, Sarah, James Patrick and Connor, Great-grandson John Fredrick, Sister, Marian Baran, Naples, Florida, several nephews and nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:00 am in St Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, with Father Joseph Verespy, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming.

Family and friends may call Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains. Those attending the Funeral Mass are asked to go directly to St. Nicholas Church Saturday morning.
