Rajchel, 91 of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, September 5, 2018 at Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke, PA. Born in Plains Township, on February 24, 1927, he was the son of the late John J. and Susan (Findryk) Rajchel. John was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1945, and was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. He was employed as A & P Markets as a clerk and later at Potlach Products until his retirement. He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains. John was an avid gardener and his mushroom picking skills cannot be overrated. He enjoyed photography and was extremely proud of his eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, the former Marie A. Volack on September 29, 2011, their son John Andrew Rachel, and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his son Dr. David R. Rajchel, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Air Force (retired), and his wife Janet, Pottsville, daughter Antoinette R. Wingert and her husband Philip, Hanover Township, his eight grandchildren, who he was most proud of, Major Michael Rajchel, United States Air Force, Captain Eric Rajchel, United States Army, Evan Rajchel, Dr. Laura Wingert, Robert P. Wingert, Tyler Rachel, Captain Patrick Rachel, United States Army, and Paige Rachel, sister Mary Ann Lemieux, Philadelphia, Godson Dr. Henry Carl Henczel, Shrewsbury, MA, several nieces and nephews. John’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful and compassionate care given to John. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the United States Army and the Plains American Legion, will be held in the parish cemetery, Plains. Family and friends may call Monday morning from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church. Arrangements by the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.
