Joan M. Yanko, 77 of Wilkes-Barre, and formerly of Laflin, passed away Wednesday morning, July 19, 2017, at her home.

Born in the Hudson section of Plains, Township, she was the daughter of the late Frank & Pauline (Dinan) Binker.

Joan was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains, Class of 1957 and was a homemaker extraordinaire all of her life.

Joan had an affinity for “High Fashion” and enjoyed cooking and hosting holiday dinners for family and friends. She also enjoyed fine dining with her granddaughters, drinking her morning coffee and watching the news up until the very end. Joan spent every New Year’s Eve with her granddaughter Madison. She was a tough cookie and a class act. She will be forever in everyone’s hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband John F. Yanko, Sr. on October 21, 1995, Sister Betty Dotter and Franny Parise.

Surviving are her children: Linda Oberman, New York City, John Yanko, Plains, Rose Yanko, Shavertown, Jennifer Tomchek, South Carolina, and Edward Tomchek, Albany, NY; grandchildren: Spencer Alben, Rayla Welch, Madison Yanko, Morgan Yanko, Mariah Welch, Lyle Oberman, Alexis Tomchek, Austin Tomchek and Ashton Tomchek; great-granddaughter Willow Dixon; most loving daughter-in-law Elaine Yanko; son-in-law Craig Oberman; and brother-in-law James Dotter.

Funeral will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 9:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Saints Peter & Paul Church Food Pantry, C/O 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705 in Joan’s name.
