Joan J. Chismar, 80 of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday evening, July 16, 2017 at her home with her family by her side.

Born in Plains, she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Catherine (Makiewicz) Kasaba.

Joan was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School and was employed as a Floor Lady in the garment industry, working at various Plains Township factories, and last as the Laundry Supervisor at River Street Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre, retiring after 30 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. Joan was a gardener who took great pride taking care of her garden and yard. She was also an animal lover, especially of her grand dogs, often having treats in her pockets for them.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph J. Chismar on December 11, 2014, her brother-in-law Donald Pachucki, and her sister-in-law Faithmarie “Kitty” Kasaba.

Surviving are her daughter Rosalie Chismar and her partner, Jeffrey Hine, Wilkes-Barre, son Joseph Chismar and his wife Michelle, Plains, grandchildren Rachel and Richard Hine, and Alexa and Dylan Chismar, great-granddaughter Alivia Supinski, brother Raymond Kasaba, Plains, sisters Irene Pachucki, Wilkes-Barre, Bernadine “Debbie” Hughes and her husband Robert Duryea, and Jenny Kasaba, Plains, sister-in-law Mary Ann Dumtra and her husband Larry, Newport News, VA, several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with Office of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18705, with Father Michael Kerestes, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Parastas services will be held Wednesday at 6:30 pm.
