Jeanette “Tanny” Gittens, 93 of Plains Twp., passed away Monday evening, May 11, 2015 at The Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Charlotte (Speary) Hummel.

Jeanette attended Elmer L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was a homemaker all of her life.

She was a member of Calvary Bible Church of Wilkes-Barre. She enjoyed sewing, car rides to Nordmont in Sullivan County to visit her homestead, walks in the country, and reminiscing about her childhood days.

She was preceded in death by her husband Allen B. Gittens.

Surviving are her son Dennis Gittens and his wife Barbara, Plains, daughters Gail Pehala, Drums, and Annette Updyke and her husband Duane, Sweet Valley,
8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Phoebe Eustice, Mountain Top, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Jeanette will be held Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705, with Rev. Sam Garnett, Pastor of Calvary Bible Church, Wilkes-Barre, officiating. Private interment will be held in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Friends may call Thursday evening, May 14, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
