Janice M. Castellani, 79 of Trucksville, passed away Monday morning, February 15, 2016 at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in the family homestead in Huntsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest L. and Marie (Piatt) Barnes.

Janice was a graduate of Lake Lehman High School, Class of 1954, where she was the Class Valedictorian and was crowned May Queen. She worked various clerical jobs at Chase Prison, Dallas, becoming only the 2nd woman hired at the prison at that time. Janice then went on to work for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. and Norfolk, Virginia. She then served 17 years as the Tax Collector of Kingston Township.

She and her husband Edmund Castellani celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on November 24, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Sterling, Charles, and Robert Barnes, and her sister Esther Smith.

Surviving in addition to her husband Edmund are her daughter Lori Smith and her husband Robert, Wilkes-Barre, her son Edmund Castellani, Jacksonville, Florida, grandchildren Allison and Erin Amos, Carson Castellani, and Robert and Eric Smith, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Janice will be private and held at the convenience of the family from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705.
