Jane Bednar

Jane Bednar, 90 of Dallas, PA, passed away Monday afternoon, July 8, 2024 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in the family home in Wilkes-Barre, PA on August 29, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Stella (Zaleta) Zeske.

Jane was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1951 and was employed in various area factories, and later at Zayre’s Department Store, Kmart, and Penn State Seed in the business office as a bookkeeper.

She was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, North End section of Wilkes-Barre, until its closing and currently a member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains. Jane took great pride in her home.  She enjoyed spending time in her garden, baking Christmas Cookies with her family, and spending time with her cat Bailey.  She was also proud to be a staff member of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Eagles Football Team.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles S. Bednar, Jr. on October 6, 2001, brothers Frank and Joseph Zeske, and sisters Stella Pascoe, Eleanor Arnold, and Leona Koepke.

Surviving are her children Michael Bednar and his wife Joyce, Charlene Hodle, and her husband Frank, and Mark Bednar, all of Dallas, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA  18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating.  A live stream of the funeral mass will be on the parish FACEBOOK page.  Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.  Family and friends may call Friday morning at church from 9:00 am until the time of Mass.  Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
