James J. Hivish of Plains Township, passed away suddenly Monday evening, October 24, 2022 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Leo and Ana (Chastek) Hivish.

Jim attended James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was employed for many years in the garment industry as a fabric cutter until his retirement. A musician for many years, Jim played piano and accordion in several musical groups, including The Diplomats, Solid Gold, and The Beetles. To say Jim was enthusiast, admirer, and fan of Elvis Presley is an understatement.

A man of great faith, he was a lifelong member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains, had a great devotion to the Virgin Mary and would recite the rosary daily.  A resident of Plains Township for over 50 years, he loved cooking.

He was preceded in death by his wife the former Bernadette Ann Oley on February 10, 1976, brother Edward Hivish, sister Katherine Merrel, and daughter-in-law Michele Hivish.

Surviving are his sons James Hivish, Jr., Kingston, Bob Hivish and his wife Linda, Dallas, and Rick Hivish and his girlfriend Denise Reichart, Wilkes-Barre, daughter Bernadette Hivish and her Fiancé Dennis Kepler, Wilkes-Barre, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA  18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating.  A Live Stream of the Funeral Mass will be on Saints Peter & Paul Parish FACEBOOK page.   Private family interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Plains. Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.
