Irene Petroski, 90 of Plains Twp., passed away peacefully on September 19, 2014 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.  Prior to this she had been a resident at Kingston Healthcare Center.

Irene was born December 27, 1923 to the late Peter and Elizabeth (Novak) Vohar of Luzerne.

Irene was very family oriented.  At a very early age, after the sudden passing of her father, she dedicated her time in full support of her family.  She worked for several years at housekeeping, the cigar factories, and silk mills.  After she met and married the love of her life, Frank, she settled into her role as homemaker and mother.

Irene was very passionate about attending her beloved St. Francis of Assisi Church in Miners Mills and once they closed their doors for the final time, then St. Benedict’s Parish of Parsons.  Irene also loved to listen to her polka bands and bake.  Her poppy seed and nut rolls, apple pies, and banana cream pies are famous among family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Petroski on September 22, 1990, and her many brothers and sisters Mary Eslick, Ann Valatka, Peggy Matinas, Betty Dushner, George Vohar, and Mickey Vohar.

Surviving are her daughters Alice Logan, Toano, Virginia, and Eileen Washko, Plains, granddaughters Lisa Logan-Davis and Jessica Washko, great-grandsons Jason and Michael Grimes, and numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved nieces Mary Lou Schnaupauff and Alice Kovalchik.

Irene will be missed greatly.  She was the rock and shining star of all of our lives.  Now she is our guardian angel watching us over our shoulders.  We love you to the moon and back Little Grandma!  So, until we meet again… “Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene, I’ll see you in my dreams…”

Funeral will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street  Plains, PA  18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Benedict’s Parish, St. Dominic’s Church  155 Austin Avenue  Wilkes-Barre, PA  18705, with Father Joseph A. Kearney, pastor, officiating.  Interment will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming.  Friends may call Monday evening from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Benedict’s Parish in Irene’s memory.
