Irene Melnyk, 88 of Plains Township, PA, passed away peacefully December 5, 2022 at Guardian Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Nanticoke.

She was born February 6, 1934, the youngest of 11 children born to Ukrainian Immigrants, the late John and Paraska (Popadiuk) Melnyk of Plains.

After graduating from Plains Memorial High School in 1951, she moved to Warren, Michigan where she enjoyed a long career in the telephone industry beginning with Bell Telephone and retiring from AT&T where she worked in the engineering department. After retirement, she moved back to the family home in Plains where she hosted many Holiday Dinners and family reunions. She was a kind and generous aunt to her 18 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers Walter, Joseph and William; and sisters Ann Wrobel, Mary Chesterfield, Margaret Babak, Alice Zaley, Helen Melnyk and Sophia Melnyk.

She is survived by her brother George Melnyk of Endicott, New York along with nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held December 9, 2022 at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, PA, with interment at the parish cemetery in Plains, PA.
