Irene Ezbitski, 92 of Pittston and formerly of Plains, Township, passed away Monday morning, September 4, 2017 at the inpatient unit of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA.

Irene was born December 26, 1924, in the Hudson section of Plains, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Stanukenas) Walkowiak.

She attended Plains Township schools and was a graduate of Empire Beauty School. Irene owned and operated her own beauty salon. She was also a Past President of the Reginas of King’s College. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Plains.

An avid and award-winning quilter, she was one of the founding members of the Pennsylvania Quilters. Throughout her life she greatly enjoyed and became expert also at needlepoint, crochet (especially afghans), and other crafts.

In addition to her late parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Ezbitski, in 2000, and her brothers Edward, Joseph, Alfred, and Peter Walkowiak.

Irene is survived by her children, Leon Joseph Ezbitski, with whom she resided and who provided her with loving and compassionate care in the final years of her life; Thomas Schroth and his wife Florence of Sugar Notch; Deborah Ann Ezbitski of Larchmont, NY; and Donna Lee Ezbitski of Houma, LA; grandchildren, D.J. Rothenbecker and his wife, Michelle, of Bear Creek, PA; and Lillianna Ezbitski Neumann and Alexander Ezbitski Neumann, both of Larchmont, NY.

Funeral will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 at 9:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Entombment will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
