Cierniakoski, 99 of Saint Petersburg, Florida, and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday afternoon, October 26, 2018 at Bon Secours Maria Manor Nursing Home in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Henry and Josephine (Macaravage) Cierniakoski. Henry was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1937, and was an Army Air Force Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. Henry attained the rank of Master Sergeant and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European – African – Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 6 bronze Stars, and Battle Star Decoration for serving in Normandy, North France, Germany and the Ardennes Forrest. Upon his honorable discharge from his active service on October 28, 1945, Henry attended the Wharton School of Business, Wilkes Barre Extension Campus. He owned and operated his own automobile service station, insurance business and a dress factory with his wife, employing 40 machine operators. He was a member of The Plains American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon, Post 558 for 33 years, and the Blind Veterans Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, the former Anne Schuster on November 17, 2016, his son Ronald Cierniakoski, brother Alfred Dombrowski and sister Irene Koschak. Surviving are his Sons, Henry Cierniakoski and his wife Carol, Wilkes-Barre and John Cierniakoski, St. Petersburgh, Florida, Grandsons, Henry, Gregory, Ronald and Robert Cierniakoski, Great-granddaughter, Laine, brother Vincent Dombrowski and sister Charlotte Burko, nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:30 am from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the Plains American Legion and the United States Army will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming. Family and friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.Henry J. Cierniakoski
