Helen Gertrude Flynn, 98 of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, after a brief illness.

Helen was born on March 26, 1919 in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late John and Mary Ellen (Hayes) Moser.

She attended St. John the Evangelist School, North end section of Wilkes-Barre, and was employed by the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for many years until her retirement.

Helen was married to Michael A. Flynn, with whom she had three daughters: Patricia Gryskevicz, Bear Creek, Twp., Jean Opalski, Catonsville, MD, and Judith Bennett, Merritt Island, FL.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Michael A. Flynn on August 1, 1965, brothers John “Jack” and Charles “Charlie” Moser, sister Margaret Moser, grandson Richard Opalski, sons-in-law Benedict Opalski, and Bernard Gryskevicz.

Surviving in addition to her daughters are her 6 grandchildren, Bernard, David and Mark Gryskevicz, Sandra Frey, Carol Hewitt, and Rebecca Phelps, 11 great-grandchildren, Amanda and Sarah Gryskevicz, Anthony, Michael and Laruen Gryskevicz, Mark and Joel Gryskevicz, Hannah and Colin Hewitt, Katie Miller, and Kali Phelps, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. One niece she was particularly fond of is Loretta Hines. They worked together at various places for many years and did daily traveling. Helen always referred to Loretta as a daughter.

Funeral will be held Monday, July 3, 2017 at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Andre Bessette Parish, St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 668 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA, with Father Kenneth M. Seegar, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Family and friends may call Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Andre Bessette Parish in Helen’s memory.
