Helen F. Barna, 89, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2017, at Timber Ridge Health Care Center.

Born in Plains, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Lottie (Kulwicz) Kulikowski.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Barna, sister Julie Anders and brothers Richard (Dick), Edwin, Chester and Anthony Kulikowski.

Helen was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1945, and was a past member of St. Joseph Church in Hudson where she was active in the Christian Mothers Association. Her late husband, Frank was owner of Frank Barna Plumbing and Heating where Helen assisted him as the Business Office Manager while raising a family of five children. In her later years she enjoyed volunteering at Foster Grandparents of Luzerne County and held a special place in her heart for the children she worked with.

Surviving are her sons Richard Barna and his wife Natalie, Potomac, MD, Frank Barna Jr. and his wife Becky, Lompoc CA, Allan Barna and his wife Randall, San Francisco, CA, daughters Jean Marie Nardone and her husband David, New Castle, DE and Christie Ann Burkhardt and her husband Lou, Wyoming, PA. Grandchildren Christopher, William and Nickolas Barna, Lauren (Barna) Williams, Steven Nardone and Alex Nardone. Great grandchildren Frank, Samuel and Lilah Barna and Sloane Williams. Brother Joseph Kulikowski, Maryland, and Sisters-in-Law Janice Kulikowski, Allentown, Helen Barna, New Jersey, and Eleanor Barna, Plains, and numerous nephews and nieces.

For many years, prior to being admitted to Timber Ridge, Helen was cared for by her loving daughter Christie, whose boundless devotion and compassion deserve special recognition.

Helen’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Timber Ridge Health Care Center for the excellent care and genuine affection lavished on her during her residency there. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Ann Marie Gavigan (Florence) for the years of truly extraordinary caring and companionship she provided. Lastly they would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice for the end of life care afforded to Helen and her family, they truly live up to their name.

According to Helen’s wishes, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family from Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
