Hedwig R. Gill, 99 of Laflin and of St. John’s Apartments, Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday October 12, 2018 at The Dawn Green Hospice, New York City.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Briestek) Niemiec.

Hedwig was a graduate of Jenkins Township High School and was a homemaker all her life. She was an amazing cook and an extraordinary home decorator.

She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin, and a member of the Parish Rosary Group.

She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Gill, Brother, John Niemiec, Sisters Josephine Lapsansky, Nellie Paczkowski, Theresa and Agnes Niemiec, and Sophie Ruskey.

Surviving are her daughters Paula Gill, of New York City, NY, and Dr. Katherine Neville and Son-in-Law, Dr. Ray Neville of Wappingers Falls, NY, Grandchildren Dustin Schiavi, NYC, NY, and Christine Neville of San Diego, CA, sister Mary Kosuth, Oakland, NJ, and Helen Sartin, Jenkins Township, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Tuesday October 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, PA 18702, with Father James J. Walsh, Pastor, officiating. The Parish Rosary Group will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the Church 30 minutes before the Mass. All are invited to attend. Entombment will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming.

Family and friends may call Monday evening from 4 – 7 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Maria Goretti Church in Hedwig’s memory.
