Colgan, 89 of Plains Township, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 13, 2021 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Michael and Margaret Colgan. Jerry was a graduate of Bayonne High School. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty, he received his PhD. in industrial manufacturing. Jerry was employed as a process manager in the manufacturing industry, working with large and small companies to help them improve their productivity. He also worked at Binghamton University as an adjunct professor. Jerry raised his family with his first wife, Kathleen, in the beautiful area of Lake Hopatcong, NJ. There were many happy years of swimming, boating and water skiing with his children. Jerry enjoyed many wonderful trips to Ireland with Dolores and was never happier than when there was music, dancing and singing. He loved a good party! He was a member of the Donegal Society, and the Irish Cultural Society of Scranton. He had many good times with the friends he made there. He was preceded in death by his seven siblings, John, Patricia, Margaret, Joan, Danny, June and infant brother Danny, step-children Dione Maloney- Bishop and Paul Maloney. Surviving are his wife the former Dolores O’Reilly, son Michael Colgan, Jefferson, New Jersey, daughters Maureen Hanley and her husband Stephen, Clinton, New Jersey, and Carol Lucas and her husband Michael, Rockaway, New Jersey, grandchildren Madeleine, John, Kathleen, Jake, Mason, Charlie, step-grandchildren Denise, and Kristen, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with family friend, Father James Nash, officiating. A live stream of the Funeral Mass will be on Saints Peter & Paul Parish FACEBOOK page. Inurnment with Military Honors accorded by the United States Army will be held at a later date in Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Montrose, PA. Family and friends may call Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until the time of mass at Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains.
