Francis J. “Frank” Roche, 72 of Luzerne, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 16, 2018 at his home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late James J. and Rose Mary (Ferry) Roche.

Frank was a graduate of West Side Central Catholic High School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed at the Times Leader, Wilkes-Barre, and later at the Citizens’ Voice as the finance officer. Lastly he was employed at Casey Dental, Pittston.

He was a member of the Swoyersville American Legion, Post 644 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 283 Kingston.

Frank was known for his incredible generosity, love of his family, and had a heart of gold. He was an avid Penn State football fan and attended many of the home games and enjoyed the tailgate parties with his friends and family. He proudly represented his beloved ship, the USS Willhoite, DE/DER. Frank will be dearly missed by his family, friends, co workers, and shipmates.

Surviving are his sister Mary Gieda and her husband Ed, Trucksville, nephews Edward B. Gieda, III and his wife Amanda, Brian J. Gieda and his wife Allison and their daughter Stella, all of Philadelphia, and Michael F. Gieda and his wife Acey and their children Kearney and Kaleilee of Key West, Florida.

Funeral Services with Military Honors accorded by the U.S. Navy will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with Deacon Donald Crane, officiating. Private interment held in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Pringle, PA. Family and friends may call Saturday morning from 9:30 am till the time of service.
