Obituaries » Eugene D. Boylan May 27, 1924 - January 21, 2016 Eugene “Gene” Boylan, 91, of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday morning, January 21, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Michael and Delia (Brown) Boylan. Gene was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Scranton and was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Miners Mills until its merger with St. Benedict’s Parish, St. Dominick’s Church, Parsons. He was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital for 30 years as Chief of Recreation and last as Director of Volunteers. Gene was an Army Veteran of World War II serving with the 106th Infantry Division (The Golden Lion) and was a Prisoner of War in Germany after being captured during The Battle of the Bulge. He remained a prisoner until being liberated in April of 1945. Gene started his career in entertainment with his Band “Three Nuts and a Bolt” in the Elbow Inn, Scranton. His entertainment career spanned over 60 years, playing many venues throughout Pennsylvania and Ireland and he recorded with Capital Records in 1959. Gene was a man of strong faith with a great sense of humor who was a dedicated Husband and Father. Preceding him in death was the love of his life his wife Anne “Nancy” (Walsh) Boylan on January 5, 2008, Sisters, Mary Cutler, Anna Orr, Grace Fuller, Catherine Lavelle; Brothers, John, Joseph, William, James, Thomas, Frank, and Paul Boylan. Surviving are his Children; Gene Boylan and his wife Mary, Kingston, Ann Boylan, Kingston, Jack Boylan and his wife Debbie, Wilkes-Barre, Mary Beth Boylan, Pittsburgh, Patricia Boylan, Chicago, Kathleen Boylan, Wilkes-Barre, Erin Walker and her husband Paul, Moscow and Brian Boylan and his wife Kristine, Scranton. Grandchildren, Miriam Kapelan, John, Bridget and Molly Boylan, Christie Walker, Kelly Gonzalez, and Katie, Brooke and Casey Walker, great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Jack Kapelan, Isabella Boylan and Ian Gonzalez. Gene’s family would like to thank all of the members of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassion and kindness. Funeral will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 9:30 am from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Benedict’s Parish/St. Dominic’s Church, 155 Austin Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA, with Father Joseph A. Kearney, pastor, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends and family may call Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations if desired may be made to the Homeless Veterans of Luzerne and Lackawanna County.Eugene D. Boylan
