DeAngelis, 96 of Plains Township, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 26, 2017 at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre, with her family by her side. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Sophie (Piontek) Smolko. Emily attended James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was employed in the area garment industry. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Church, Hudson, until its closure and merger with Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains, the Plains and Wilkes-Barre Senior Citizens, the I.L.G.W.U., the Stompers Line Dancing, and the Slovak Catholic Sokol Group #7, Wilkes-Barre. Emily enjoyed playing Bingo, shopping, and trips to the casino. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, and aunt. She and her late husband Alfred enjoyed going dancing on Saturday nights. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Alfred D. DeAngelis on September 5, 1994, brother Joseph J. Smolko, sisters Mary Griglock and Sophie Konieczny. Surviving are her son Alfred J. DeAngelis and his wife Sandie, daughter Emily Klem and her husband Ronald, all of Plains, grandchildren Robin Klem and her wife Andrea Lewis, Alfred “Butch” DeAngelis, Jr., and his wife Marian, Renee Laiuvara and her husband Ralph, and John DeAngelis and his wife Tiffany, great-grandchildren, Matthew, Allyson, Ian, Jessica, and Jorden, nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held Monday, January 30, 2017 at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in the Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming. Family and friends may call Sunday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
