Emerson was a great man and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Worked with him for several years at the Standard-Speaker and he always made us laugh, racing around the composing room yelling "Yogurt!"

I worked with Emerson at the Scranton Times. He was one of the greatest people I have ever had the honor to know. He was a wealth of information and knowledge & had the biggest heart. We all loved & respected Emerson and have so many great memories & "Emerson stories" that I know we all tell often.

I met Emerson when he became the apprentice at the Sunday Independent one year after I started mine. During that period we became friends and remained so us until I walked into his office in 1989 where he was now my boss. I told him I needed to take a leave of absence to go to Arizona to "find myself" after a devastating car accident. Emerson, being the kind of person he always was, looked at me and you could feel his pain for me...he said "whatever you need"...those were my last minutes working there and I have always asked old co-workers if they had spoken to him...he never left my mind and I was very sorry to read about his passing....I have said my prayers to him and to his family
