Eleanore A. Bednar, 92 of Plains Township, passed away at Highland Park Senior Living, Wilkes-Barre, on Monday afternoon, April 12, 2021, 2 days before her 93rd birthday.

Born in Plains, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Akalis) Meldaves.

Eleanore was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1945. She worked for a short time at the United States Pentagon and was later a housewife and homemaker. Eleanore also volunteered at John Heinz for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Peter Bednar on July 31, 2017, daughter Lisa Marie Bednar on March 1, 2003, grandson Kevin Biniek, Jr. on March 18, 2019, and sisters Helen Johnson and Rose Chirinko.

Surviving are her daughter Susan Bednar and grandson Nicholas Biniek, both of Plains, nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 10:00am at the Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with Deacon Donald Crane, Officiating. Interment will be held at Memorial Shrine Burial Park, Carverton section of Wyoming, PA. Family and friends may call Thursday morning at the funeral home from 9:00am to 10:00am. Those attending the visitation and/or funeral, we ask that you be brief when paying your respects, please follow the practice of social distancing, and masks are required at all times at the funeral home and the cemetery.
