Vera, 61 of Laflin, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton. Born in Philadelphia, Eileen was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Picento) Helveston. Eileen was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, Class of 1979 and earned her undergraduate degree in professional writing from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Saint Mary’s, Indiana, and her Master of Arts Degree in executive leadership from Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA. Eileen was a proud American, loved pizza, and was an author of a children’s book on leadership called Lilly the Leader Gets Ready For School. She was always very happy, positive, and loving. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Helveston. Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Dr. Luis A. Vera, Laflin, sons Michael Vera, Laflin, and Jake Vera and his wife Nora, Spartanburg, SC, daughter Monica Maggio and her husband Michael Maggio, Jr., Hatboro, PA, sister Mary Konicki and her husband Pete, Naples, FL, and brother James Helveston and his wife Peg, Exeter, nieces and nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, PA 18702, with Father Alex Roche, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming. The Parish Rosary Group will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the Church 30 minutes before the Mass. All are invited to attend. Family and friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at church.
