Dr. Michael Labuda, 92 of Plains Township, passed away Monday morning, July 25, 2022 at Allied Services Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Plains, he was the son of the late Paul and Anna (Duda) Labuda.

Michael was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, and King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After graduation from King’s, Michael was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Corporal. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty in 1953, Michael earned his Master’s Degree in Education from The University of Delaware and his PhD. in Education from The University of Idaho. Dr. Labuda was employed as a college professor at Jersey City State College, Jersey City, New Jersey.

He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the Knights of Columbus Assumpta Council 3987.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Pensieri, Alice Stortz, Margurite Chalker and Pauline Skillinge.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, the former Joan Zemanek, Plains, son Michael Labuda and his wife Nicki Newman, Potomac, MD, grandsons Sam and Zach Labuda, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Divine Liturgy on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 10:30 am at SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 635 N. River Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705, with Father Myron Myronyuk, officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Plains.
