Dolores “Dee” Tirpak, 92 of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 21, 2023 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on April 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Wanda (Center) Purta, Sr.

Dee was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1948, and was employed in the garment industry at Gail’s Fashions and Leslie Fay until her retirement. She was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains, and the I.L.G.W.U.

Dee was the “go to” for all things sewn, including many a prom and wedding dress. She loved to travel to casinos, near and far, and loved Saturday’s in the fall for all things football.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Joseph J. Tirpak, Sr. on February 21, 2019, daughter Debbie (Tirpak) Swetin, sister Carolyn “Cor” Vrabel, brothers Carl Purta, and Frank Purta, Jr., and niece Maureen (McGarrity) Redmond.

Surviving are her daughter Kathy Tirpak and her partner Eric Triani, and son Joseph Tirpak, Jr. and his wife Sandy, all of Wilkes-Barre, grandchildren Christopher and Ryan Tirpak, great-grandchildren Xaiver, Myles, Lucas, and Mia Tirpak, sister Barbara “Honey” McGarrity, Wilkes-Barre, nephews, Thomas J. McGarrity, III, Woodstock, GA, and Francis Purta, III, Plains, nieces Colleen Halkawicz and her husband Mark, Lewisburg, PA, Donna Kumov and her husband Krasimir Laflin, several great-nieces and nephews.

Dee wanted to thank her daughter Kathy and her partner Eric for everything they did for her these last years. Dee also wanted to extend a special Thank You to her special friend, Lucille Chimento, who would assist her with everyday tasks no matter how big or small, and to her surviving sister, Barbara “Honey” McGarrity, for her friendship and support.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, Plains, PA. Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.
