Chester A. Knowles, 89 of Plains Township, passed away Sunday morning, October 3, 2021 at Allied Hospice, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Sullivan) Knowles.

Chester was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School and was an United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank Sgt. 1st Class.  Chester also served in the United States Navy Reserves for over 20 years.

He was employed as a Jet Engine Mechanic at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, CT, and last at Air Products, Wilkes-Barre, until his retirement.    He was a former member of the Plains United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, the former Shirley M. Grosdidier on January 4, 2017, brother John Knowles and his sister Betty Hulsizer.

Surviving are his son Bruce R. Knowles and his wife Marianne, Plains, daughter Brenda J. Knowles, Ridgewood, NJ, grandsons Bruce J. Knowles and his wife Lora, Shavertown, and Ryan M. Knowles and his wife Stephanie, Plains, Great-grandchildren Mackenzie Knowles and Bruce J. Knowles, Jr., nieces and nephews.

Chester’s family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Kingston Manor Personal Care Home, especially Suzette, Vita, Barbara, and Sara.  Also a special thank you to the staff at the VA Medical Center Home Base Primary Care, especially Donna, Kim, Denise, and to the staff at Allied Hospice, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.  A very special thank you to Dr. Patrick Kerrigan for the wonderful care and friendship given to Chester over the years.

Funeral services with Military Honors Accorded by the United States Air Force, will be private and held at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.
