Charles “Jim” Beccaris, 83 of Plains, Twp., passed away Friday, September 11, 2015, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley in the arms of his loving wife, Huguette.

Born June 5, 1932, Jim was the son of the late John and Mary (Polinski) Beccaris.

After graduating from Plains Memorial High School, he attended Wilkes-Barre Business College until he was drafted into the army. He was stationed at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his discharge from the service, he joined his father in the family business. He was an integral part of the development of the successful business, Jay-Dee Store, later known as The Sneaker King in 1983. Jim was the co-owner and president of Sneaker King. Jim contributed to the community through his membership in the Plains Businessmen’s Association as well as many charitable activities. Jim’s circle of friends were many through all of his life and he was much respected.

An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Wyoming Valley Country Club. He organized for several years’ junkets to Las Vegas. He formerly owned horses and enjoyed the race track. He loved to travel and particularly enjoyed visiting Quebec, Canada, spending time with his wife’s family. He looked forward to wintering in Florida. His favorite pastime was sports, reading business and sports papers, music, dancing, visiting friends and watching sunsets with his wife.

In addition to Jim’s mother and father, he is preceded in death by his cousin Dolores Jones.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Huguette Roy-Beccaris, daughters Jacqueline Wanko and her husband Mark, and Janelle Mirigliani and her husband Larry, all of Kingston, grandchildren Ryan Wanko and his wife Sandra, Alaina Wanko and her fiancé Patrick Horbas, Christopher Mirigliani and Brandon Mirigliani, great-grandson Jason–Ryan Wanko, Brother Jack Beccaris and his wife Jeanie, Laflin, Huguette’s children Jean-Sebastien, Marie Andree, Pascal and their wives, and 4 granddaughters.

The family would like to thank the staff at Timber Ridge for their excellent care during his stay. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Yanoshak, and the caring staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley PCU for their compassion and comfort extended to Jim’s family during this difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 10:00 am at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705.
