Catherine M. Rusenko, 83 of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday morning, April 15, 2016 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Abie (Miller) Shovlin.

Catherine was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, class of 1950 and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, Wilkes-Barre. She was also a member of its Altar and Rosary Society and the Hospitality at St. Mary’s Church.

Catherine was employed as a teacher associate in special education for 22 years at Elmer L. Meyers High School and Mackin Elementary School, both of Wilkes-Barre. She was also employed as a receptionist for Dr. Sydney Berman for 23 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Rusenko on August 26, 2002, her son Nicholas Rusenko on April 4, 2013, who she is now reunited with, and her sister Bernadine Johnson on June 20, 2012.

Surviving are her Goddaughter Carol Rossi and her husband Donald, Wilkes-Barre, nephews Glenn and Bernard Johnson, and niece Mollie Raff, great nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Monday, April 18, 2016 at 9:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish, St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, 134 South Main Street Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701 with Father J. Duane Gavitt, Pastor, officiating. Entombment will be held in the parish cemetery, Hanover Twp. Friends and family may all Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, 134 South Main Street Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
