Carl F. Swoboda, 81 of Plains Township, passed away Friday morning, June 10, 2022 at his home with his family by his side.

Born in Plains, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Slabinski) Swoboda.

Carl was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College. He was an Army Veteran serving with the Pennsylvania National Guard, Battery A, 1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery, from March 1962 until his honorable discharge in March of 1965 as a Specialist 4th Grade. He was employed at McKinney manufacturing, Moosic, as a material handler until his retirement in 2005.

Carl was an avid sports fan and for many years played in the Wilkes-Barre Area Fast Pitch League. Carl was also very clever at home renovation projects and was considered everyone’s handyman. He loved his garden and was his passion and every year.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph and John Swoboda, his sister Louise Becker, and his son-in-law Richard Kenzakoski.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Judith A. Sufleta, Plains, daughter Kimberly Robinson and her husband Tom, Bear Creek, grandsons Richard Joseph “R.J.” Kenzakoski and Zachary “Zack” Kenzakoski, many loving nieces and nephews, and his constant companions, Mikey and Misty.

Carl’s family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. David Greenwald and the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the wonderful care and compassion given to Carl.

A Mass of Christian Burial Monday, June 13, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. A Live Stream of the Funeral Mass will be on Saints Peter & Paul Parish FACEBOOK page. Private inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call Sunday evening, June 12, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.
