Bernard E. Ferdo

Bernard E. Ferdo, 87, of Dallas and formerly of the East End section of Wilkes-Bare, fell asleep in the Lord Tuesday evening, December 23, 2014, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, with his family by his side.

 

Born in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John (Firda) and Anna (Micikas) Ferdo.

 

Bernard attended James M. Coughlin High School and was employed for the International Color Press, Wilkes-Barre, The Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course and last for the Pa. Photo License Center.

 

He was a member of Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, where he was a member of the choir, and sang at the New York’s World’s Fair in the Vatican Pavilion in 1964.

 

Bernard was known for his Great Sense of Humor, love of the outdoors and had coached Little League and Teener Baseball.

 

Bernard was preceded in death by his Wife the former Dolores Lukach who he said “a chance meeting at Scouton Lee Ice Skating Pond resulted in 63 years of happy marriage to his best friend”.

 

Also preceding him in death are his Brothers; John, Joseph, Stephen, Sisters, Anna Helen, Vera and Mary.

 

Surviving are his Son Mark Ferdo, Dallas, Daughters; Carole Matthews and her husband Robert, Glendale section of Pittston Twp.,  Joan Hand and her husband  Michael, Penn Yan, N.Y.; Lois Scott and her husband William, Forty Fort; grandchildren Rachel Kiss and her husband Jason, April Hand-Smith and husband Eric, Lauren Ellis and husband Brian, Megan Scott and fiancée Joshua Turner, Philip Hand and Kevin Scott, great grandchildren; Caleb and Arden Kiss and Ian Hand-Smith and Anna Hand-Smith, several nephews and nieces.  He was also predeceased by his beloved dog Holly and will be missed by his cat Boo Boo Kitty.

 

Office of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 9:00 am at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rev. James G. Hayer, Pastor officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dorchester Drive Dallas, PA.  Those attending the funeral mass are asked to go directly to church Saturday morning.   Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, Pennsylvania  18705.
