Barbara Alice Smith, 87, of Wilkes-Barre, went home to the Lord on Saturday morning, October 29, 2022. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 30, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice (Clemens) Glycenfer. She graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in Wilkes-Barre and worked as a nurse’s aide for the V.A. Hospital and Mercy Hospital.

Barbara was a devout catholic that enjoyed traveling to different prayer Vigils and praying the Rosary. She loved frequent visits from her dear friends, Sister Madonna, and Deloris Dlugosh. She devoted her life to spending time with her family and friends. She valued sleepovers and spa nights with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored singing and watching Western movies with the love of her life, her husband John. Barbara lived a selfless life giving back to others and her community through volunteer work such as at the Red Cross and local churches. She was genuine, loving, and loved to laugh with others. She will be missed greatly by her loved ones.

Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, John Smith Jr. her brothers Gene McCabe and Jackie McCabe both of Boston; her sister Patsy Oswald of Delaware.

She is survived by her sons John Smith and his wife, Dee, of Smithville; and David Smith and his wife, Carron, of Miners Mill; daughters, Karen Luce, Mary Thiemann, and Barbara Cole, all of Wilkes-Barre; Cindi Stoodley and her husband, Chris, of Shickshinny; and Joyce Lalla and her partner, Jeff Ritsick, of Plains; brother Billy Glycenfer of Washington; sister Kathy Barker of New Hampshire; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA  18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating.  A Live Stream of the Funeral Mass will be on Saints Peter & Paul Parish FACEBOOK page.   Family and friends may call from 9:00 am until the time of Mass Thursday morning at church. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains. Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.
