Alice Benzi, 90 of Plains Twp., died Sunday, June 26, 2016 at River Street Manor Nursing Facility, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Plains, she was the daughter of the late Illes & Barbara (Ferchik) Polinski Wachilla. She was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1943 and was employed by Jay Dee Shoe Store, Plains, and later in the garment industry. Alice was Past President of the Hilldale Community Center, was a member of the Plains Township Taxpayers Association and SS. Peter & Paul Church, Plains.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmo Benzi on May 12, 2001, sisters Mary Beccaris, Margaret Merusi, and Elizabeth Baran Augustine, brothers Michael and Andrew Polinski, and Edward Wachilla.

She is survived by her loving children, son Elmo Benzi, Plains, daughter Naomi Falchek and her husband Joseph, Mountain Top, and her beloved grandson Joseph Falchek, Alexandria, Virginia, several nieces and nephews.

Alice’s children would like to thank the staff at River Street Manor for their compassionate care of their mother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 9:30 am at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to church. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509 in Alice’s memory.
